Who we are? Kalāvāṇī Institute provides an interdisciplinary approach to Indian traditional performing arts pedagogy for contemporary students. Founded in 2020 by Akhil Jobanputra, the institute seeks to nurture and sustain a healthy ecosystem of traditional Indian performing arts by providing accessible and high-quality courses, workshops, and apprenticeships on prayoga (practice) and śāstra (theory). We hope to better bridge these two domains, prayoga and śāstra, through cultivating interdisciplinary dialogue, academic inquiry, as well as a broad spectrum of local and international alumni as artists, scholars, and rasikas (aesthetes).
Kalāvāṇī Institute operates under the umbrella of sister organizations Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver (ICMSV) and the Society for Indian Music and Arts (SIMA).
