Curious about Indian Classical Music? Come learn about this beautiful musical culture with the Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver. Each month we’ll introduce a new instrument and explore its role in the many forms of Indian Classical Music.

Our first program will explore the sitar, one of India’s most recognizable instruments. This program will be led by Sharanjeet Singh Mand, one of Canada’s most accomplished young sitar players. This program will include a demonstration of the instrument and an explanation of how it fits into the larger culture of Indian Classical Music.

Sharanjeet Singh Mand is a devotee of the sitar, a seeker on the path where sound and silence meet. He believes music, true music, is the final resting place of man’s search for truth and beauty. His journey has been blessed by many luminous souls, none more than his guru, Pandit Harvinder Sharma, whose presence echoes in every phrase. In 2019, CBC listed Sharanjeet as one of 30 under 30 Hottest Classical Musicians. He has performed across India, Canada, the USA, and many other countries alike, and is a member of the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra’s Borderland Ensemble. Sharanjeet is also a dedicated teacher, founding Gurukul Canada to share his love for music and the sitar.
