About the Instructor Devraj Chakraborty began his training in Hindustani vocal music at the age of six in Pune, India. Over the years, he has studied with several teachers across different traditions, including Harshad Dongare of the Kirana gharana and Avinanda Mukherji of Taranga Sangeet Academy. Since 2024, he has been training under Akhil Jobanputra, deepening his understanding of dhrupad, khayal, rāga theory, and voice production. Devraj has been an active performer for over a decade, regularly appearing with the Lower Mainland Bengali Cultural Society and at events hosted by organizations such as DiwaliFest, Vancouver Tagore Society, and India Cultural Association (ICA). His repertoire spans Hindustani classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, and Bollywood. Through the Kalāvāṇī Institute, he aims to further develop as a classical vocalist and inspire the next generation of students. Alongside his musical pursuits, Devraj is completed a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at BCIT. He also brings experience working with children through his volunteer work at Killarney Community Centre and his role as a Daycare Leader at Clubhouse Kids Richmond |
