Akhil Jobanputra - Hindustani vocal
Email: akhil@alumni.ubc.ca Currently accepting students: Yes Akhil Jobanputra is a B.C. born student, educator, performer, and curator of Indian classical music. Starting his training at the age of three, Akhil initially learnt under Asha Lohia of the Pandit Jasraj School of Music Foundation and Neeraja Aptikar, later receiving guidance from his BadeGuruji Pandit Jasraj and his senior disciples. He is currently under the tutelage of Gurus (masters) Dr. Pandit Arun Dravid and Pandit Arijit Mahalanabis, and receives guidance from Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar. As an educator, Akhil has taught a number of students to enrich Vancouver’s South Asian traditional arts and culture ecosystem over the past decade. He was recently featured in the Canadian South Asian Youth Conference, and his paper “My Identity, My Music” was published by the Simon Fraser University Library. Akhil recently graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Geography. |
