These specially designed workshops will explore the connection between the voice and the veena found in the Dhrupad tradition. The Dagar lineage has studied the intersections of the voice and veena intimately, with many members of the family training in both vocals and veena simultaneously. This was the case for veena maestro Bahauddin Dagar, who represents the 8th generation of musicians in his family.

The workshops are open to vocalists and melodic instrumentalists alike from across traditions (Hindustani, Carnatic, Jazz, etc.) who are looking to imbibe Dhrupad and veena stylization, sound practice, and ornamentation. The student level is geared towards those who have developed familiarity with their voice/instrument and is recommended for intermediate/advanced practitioners or those with a minimum of 5 years of training in their respective form.

This program is co-presented by the Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver (ICMSV) and Kalāvāṇī Institute
