Established Indian classical percussionist Tejas Tope explores tālas - the intricate cycles of time in the Hindustani music tradition - through both improvisation and repertoire in this intimate recital. Based in New York, Tejas has studied tabla for over two decades under his guru Pandit Samir Chatterjee, as well as the late Ustad Zakir Hussain. He has performed with eminent artists including Ustad Shujaat Khan, Pandit Krishna Bhatt, Pandit Arun Dravid, and with Ustad Zakir Hussain as part of the Masters of Percussion tour. Tejas has also presented tabla solos at some of the most prestigious venues across North America and India. He is joined by Kishan Patel on harmonium, providing lehera (time-keeping accompaniment).

Zameen Art House is a performing arts venue located towards the entrance of Granville Island. Plenty of paid parking is available around the venue. To get parking on the side of the venue make sure to get onto Duranleau Street which comes right up to the venue before you exit Granville Island. It is also accessible via transit with the #50 False Creek bus stop a few minutes walk away. The main entrance is stairs only, but elevator access is also available (please notify us ahead of time if you'll need to use it). There is a single washroom available which is gender-neutral. Refreshments will be available for purchase from the Zameen Café prior to the program starting.

This program is presented by the Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver (ICMSV), supported by Zameen Art House, with generous funding from Vancouver Foundation's LEVEL BIPOC Grant.
